Community-owned by more than 500 shareholders, this lovingly restored Victorian street-corner local stands opposite the site of Saffron Walden’s former railway station. and cider lovers.

Saved by the local community in 2020 and renovated largely by volunteers, the pub combines traditional character with a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Completely free of tie, the Railway Arms champions independent and local breweries, with up to six changing cask ales including stouts, bitters, pales and modern craft styles, alongside a carefully chosen range of real ciders and perries.

Wriggers’ Cider is produced on the premises, with several house ciders regularly available direct from the cellar. The pub has earned recognition as a CAMRA award winner, including Runner Up in the National Pub Saving Award 2021, Essex Pub of the Year, North West Essex Pub of the Year and Regional Cider Pub of the Year.

Outside, a spacious beer garden and courtyard provide plenty of seating, while inside the walls feature memorabilia and displays celebrating the history of the Saffron Walden branch railway line.

Food on Thursdays is by a changing selection of food trucks
